Lip Enhancement

What is Lip Enhancement, Lip Augmentation, and Lip Plumping?

We all have a good idea of what make for attractive lips, and they rely on fullness, softness and smoothness. Researchers have determined that there’s a scientific precedent for this, a 2006 issue of Dermatologic Therapy writing that one of the characteristics of a young, beautiful face is centred on a “soft, full appearance”. Unfortunately, age takes away from the face’s natural beauty, robbing the lips of their youthful vitality and leaving them thinner and wrinkled.

RejuvaYou can help you improve the appearance of your lips by providing you with a full range of highly effective lip enhancement treatments. As the study mentioned above goes on to say, since “the lip [is] the focal center of the lower face, subtle lip enhancement is here to stay, and is in fact, the number one indication for injectable fillers.”

A lip enhancement procedure adds volume and shape to the lips through the use of filler injections. This quick, safe and noninvasive procedure is a chance to improve the appearance of your lips by restoring their youth, creating additional fullness or correcting asymmetry.

A lip enhancement procedure will make your lips look fuller and younger, but to achieve the most natural-looking results, please consult with doctor trained in aesthetic medicine.

Why should someone get lip enhancements?

As you age, your lips will gradually become thinner and develop wrinkles. Of course, sun exposure, smoking, poor nutrition and genetics can expedite this process. This process will decrease your collagen production, which is vital to the fullness and smoothness of your lips.

If you are someone looking to restore the lips of your youth, enhance thin lips or have noticeably asymmetrical lips, this would be a great treatment to consider.

What are the products used for lip enhancements?

Artificial fillers like Juvederm and Restylane are used to create the ideal lip enhancement. Juvederm and Restylane use hyaluronic acid, which is great remedy for collagen loss. Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced in the body as a lubricating agent. When it is used as a filler, hyaluronic acid will plump, soften and smooth your skin to give it a youthful glow.

For a permanent resolution and a truly natural look, you have the choice to use your own fat to enhance your lips. Fat can be harvested from other parts of body and transferred to your lips. A minimally invasive procedure known as Vaser Lipo emulsifies and extracts fat. This procedure is great for maintaining the integrity of your fat cells, making them excellent for transfer.

What happens during a lip enhancement treatment?

The area is prepped with rubbing alcohol to remove any bacteria on the surface of your skin. Then, you will be given a lidocaine shot to anesthetize the area before the filler injection. The filler or fat will then be injected into your lips through a syringe. The amount injected will vary from person to person. It is important to consult with a respected, aesthetically-trained doctor that will know your correct proportions and will avoid over-plumping or “duck lips.”

What are the results of lip enhancements?

Shortly after your treatment, you may experience some temporary swelling and bruising, but there is no downtime. You can return to your normal daily activities right after your treatment. If your swelling and bruising last for several days, be sure to immediately contact your doctor. The results of artificial fillers will last six to nine months.

If your results are less than ideal, the procedure can be safely reversed by injecting an enzyme known hyaluronidase that will immediately eliminate the filler. Also naturally produced in the body, hyaluronidase works by dissolving the hyaluronic acid of the filler.

The fat transfer is a permanent procedure, but your results will deteriorate over time because of the natural aging process.

How can you treat Migraine Headaches?

BOTOX® (onabotulinumtoxinA) was first approved by the FDA in 1989 for the treatment of eye disorders, blepharospasm, and strabismus. It was noticed that wrinkles around the eyes would disappear after BOTOX® injections, and BOTOX® became widely used for treating facial lines. In turn, many people who had wrinkles treated noticed improvement in their headaches. Scientific studies and our experience confirm that BOTOX® injections can indeed relieve chronic migraine headaches.

BOTOX® is the first FDA-approved (2010) preventive treatment for adults who have Chronic Migraines. A Chronic Migraine means you have both a history of migraine headaches and headaches on most days of the month (15 or more). The effect of a single Botox treatment lasts on average 3 months. The procedure takes 10 minutes to perform and is accompanied by minimal discomfort because of the very small needle size. BOTOX® prevents migraines and headaches before they even start. BOTOX® prevents on average 8 to 9 headache days and migraine/probable migraine days a month.
